Inspiration

A space to see the resources in real classrooms, used in simple, meaningful ways. It’s not about perfect setups, but how play and talk come together to support learning.

Quality Commentary Sheets

Commentary sheets are a simple way to build staff confidence and take the pressure off knowing what to say. Instead of lots of questions, they help adults talk alongside children to notice, describe and wonder out loud.

So many adults worry about what to say during play. We fall back on questions, or say very little because we’re unsure. These sheets help with that.

They quickly build confidence. You stop overthinking and become more present. Over time, interactions feel more natural, longer, warmer and more purposeful.

Class Calendar Display

The calendar is honestly my (and the children’s!) favourite display in the classroom. In just five minutes each day, we cover so much,...ordinal language, numeral recognition, days of the week, and build a really strong, secure understanding of pattern.

We add in birthdays and special events, which makes it feel personal and meaningful, and the children genuinely love engaging with it.

It’s simple, consistent and so effective.

Themed Tens Frames

These themed nursery rhyme ten frames are always a favourite with my littles, they often choose them during adventure time without any prompting. I keep them out in continuous provision as well as using them in rhyme time, small groups and teaching sessions.

They’re a simple but powerful way to build understanding of number, support counting, and develop Oracy through repeated, familiar rhymes.

Here's one of my littles using one during continuous provision.

Colourful Semantics

Colourful semantics… I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve used them in every year group I’ve ever taught, from Year 5 down to nursery. Traditionally used as a speech and language support, which they are BRILLIANT for, but they do so much more.

I first started creating these for my classes nearly 10 years ago. I have recently updated them to have straight edges, which makes making them a breeze! They work beautifully as a talking tool for tiny littles, and as a writing support for bigger littles.

My number one recommended resource for any year group. Here is one of my lovelies from a Reception class a few years ago.

Tiny Mouse

Do you have a tiny mouse living in your classroom? Why not? This easy to set up provocation is a golden tool for Oracy. The children (and me) absolutely love it and it creates so much talk and excitement.

I love this one so much I’ve dedicated an entire ramble to it, check it out on my Rambles page.

Here is @tufftrayswithsoph showing her setup.
